Driving Directions (these suggested directions are based on online information; always take the route that works best for you)

From Hayward: Take I-880 north towards downtown Oakland. Take the Oak St exit. At the end of the off-ramp, turn right onto Oak St. Go one block, then turn right onto 7th St. Go straight ahead to the second traffic light, then turn right into the big Laney College parking lot. Park in the student parking area.

From Marin county: Take I-580 eastbound across the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge towards Oakland. Stay on I-580 as it merges into I-80 at Albany. As you pass Berkeley, get over to the left side of the freeway so that you can stay on I-580 when it splits away from I-80 at Emeryville. As you go into the big interchange, follow the signs for I-580 (Downtown/Oakland/Hayward/Stockton). Once past the interchange, take Exit 19C (Downtown Oakland) to get from I-580 to 24/I-980. Once you are on 24/I-980, start following the “From Walnut Creek” directions below.

From San Francisco: Take I-80 east across the Bay Bridge. When the freeway widens after you come off the bridge, stay slightly to the right of the center lane and follow the signs for I-580 towards CA-24/Hayward/Stockton. Once you are through the big interchange and are on I-580, take Exit 19C (Downtown Oakland) to get from I-580 to 24/I-980. Once you are on 24/I-980, start following the “From Walnut Creek” directions below.

From Walnut Creek: Go west on CA-24 (which turns into I-980 in Oakland). Take the Jackson St exit. At the end of the very long off-ramp, cross Jackson St and go 2 blocks to Oak St. Turn left onto Oak St. Go under the freeway and past 6th St. Turn right onto 7th St. Go straight ahead to the second traffic light, then turn right into the big Laney College parking lot. Park in the student parking area.

Once You are at Laney

You enter the Laney Student Center from a paved courtyard that is a full story above the surrounding streets. To reach the courtyard, you normally walk up one of the sloping walkways (or the adjoining flight of stairs) between the buildings which surround the courtyard.

If you are bringing more than you can easily carry but less than a car full, please park in the Laney parking lot and bring your things in from there. Bring a wagon or handcart if you have one; one wagon, a flatbed carrier, and nursery flats will be available just inside the door of the Exchange. If you will have trouble bringing your items in from your car, please let the people at the door know. For more about unloading at Laney, go to Unloading at Laney College.

If you have a car full of Exchange supplies or plants: Instead of turning into the Laney parking lot, stay on the street and drive all the way to the end of the (very long) block. Make a U-turn around the end of the island and drive back to near the traffic light at the main parking lot entrance. At the CRFG signs, turn right into the campus, and follow the signs to our unloading area. For more about unloading at Laney, go to Unloading at Laney College.

Disabled access: There are 2 small "Disabled" parking lots at street level. If you have trouble walking up stairs or sloping ground, call Idell (510-223-6291) for more information. If coming by BART, check the status of the elevators at your station and Lake Merritt station before leaving home.
